Two Gentleman Of Verona Two Gentleman of Verona Two Gentlemen of Verona, directed by Mr. Wolfe, depicted an excellent plot through strong acting and characterization. In addition it possessed humor that perfectly affixed into the era of the sixties. The play was transformed from its original time era and placed in the sixties. The main plot outline surrounds two gentleman from Verona who were best friends. These two best friends named Valentine and Proteus were played by Geoffrey Kidwell, and Noah Silverman. The story really begins when Valentine leaves Verona. He is then banished from the next city he enters, Milan. During his time spent in Milan Valentine falls in love with a young women, Sylvia, played by Katie Moran. However he is torn away from her when he is banished. Then Proteus, his best friend, betrays him. Proteus persues Sylvia, although he already has a fianc?e, Julia, played by Stephanie Nealy. Proteus experiences true loneliness when he is rejected by Sylvia and dumped by fianc?e. Julia rides off with Speed, a servant/messenger of Valentine, played by Ronald Del Castillo. Thus the moral and theme of the story surrounds the idea of friendship and betrayal. Ronald Del Castillo, Speed, had very good vocal choices. He played a messenger/servant who was always on the run. Speed used a bicycle or rolerblades, to give the effect of constant movement. Thus, he rapidly talked like he acted, to demonstrate his sense of chaos and lack of control. His physical and vocal choices showed he was a messenger or servant and was always on the move needing to be somewhere. His choices definitely were very effective. The next character had some opposite and alike characteristics but also effectively fulfilled his character. Thomas Odell, who played Launce, was Proteuss servant. His character was somewhat quaint, but was very funny. He had a lot of curved physical choices, like his walk. He always had a sense of bewilderment on his face. He was always walking around, almost as if he was lost, and tangled up with his leash from his dog. His vocal and physical choices completely fulfilled his character in showing he was a bewildered and chaotic servant. The first costume that was very effective was worn by Katie Moran, Sylvia. It was almost as though she was a Marilyn Monroe look a like. Her costume consisted of a blonde wig on and a brightly colored dress. The dress she wore was a red shiny dress. This dress make her look sexy in order to draw attention to her. When she came on stage she caught your eye. Her dress didnt really have a time and setting effect but, it was very important. It made her a very important character and a wanted character by everyone in the play. This, is the reason that Valentine and Proteus fell in love with her. The Directors concept of this costume was to make this character very significant and it was efficiently achieved by giving her a bright costume. The next costume was that of Thomas Odell, who played Launce, a servant of Proteus. His costume was like Sylvias. It had bright colors but they were peculiar. His costume consisted of purple, orange and yellow colors. He wore unique shirts and a Hawaiian looking shirt. He also wore a straw hat and his nose was covered with zinc. This costume was almost portraying him as a tourist. I dont know if that was the Mr. Wolfe was trying to get across or if he was showing us that this character was a uncanny and unusual character that didnt really know were he was going. In addition to his costume he had a dog. The dog symbolized confusion and chaos by creating more cluster because he kept on getting tangled in the leash while trying to carry the briefcases. His costume made it seem like it was always daytime. Mr. Wolfes concept definitely was qualified for the character and gave it a funny twist. The first setting begins at the beach. That is where the play starts showing with many people on the beach having a good time. the scene props consisted of towels, beach chairs and a life guard station. The towels were green, yellow and purple along with matching bathing suits. Everything was awkward, similar to the sixties. This setting took up the whole stage. The beach was mostly used during the daytime and you could tell by the sun would be up and everything would be bright. When the

Comparison of the discrimination Essay To conclude this comparison of these two groups, the Dalits in India and the Indigenous Australians, I believe their situations can be linked and related to. The Dalits in India are regarded as the lowest of the low and are treated like rats. They are not given proper education and healthcare and not allowed to mix with non-Dalits. The IA on the other hand had there numbers decline mostly due to the European diseases brought to the country and also due to cultural genocide (the process of taking the aboriginal children and breeding them with non IAs, thus killing off the IA population). These two groups are closely related however in the case of the IAs they were the first natural inhabitants of Australia. This is the opposite to the Dalits, they were originally from India however the caste system in India has forced them into poverty. What has forced IA into poverty is the massive presence of the white population and has made the IA into a minority. However there have been recent apologies by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd of Australia to the indigenous Australians, which I would say is respectful. However there has been no sympathy towards the Dalits from the upper classes, they want the Dalits to stay in this low status for as long as possible. To conclude I believe the Dalits suffer more than the IAs, not just because of the way they are treated but the sheer number of them as a whole. Reliability of Human Memory

The reliability of human memory, though typically seen as quite accurate and trust- worthy, has been questioned by researchers in recent decades. In particular, one area of memory that has raised questioning is emotional memories that are extraordinarily vivid and detailed, which were first referred to as flashbulb memories' in 1977 by Roger Brown and James Kulak, which occur due to powerful events such as the death of Princess Diana, and the terrorist attacks on 9/1 1 . These memories are not as reliable as perceived, and do not provide accurate details of past events liable.This can be seen in the following two Journal articles; one which looks at memory recollection after 9/1 1 occurred over 3 different time periods, straight after, 1 year after and 3 years after, and the other looks at the flashbulb memories produced after the nuclear attacks in Japan in 1999. It is important to adopt the idea that flashbulb memories do not provide accurate details of past events reliably, and mo re so look at them Just like every other memory. The first Journal article examines long-term retention of memory from the tragedy hat is the terrorist attacks of September 1 1 .The study had over 3000 individuals from seven US cities report on their learning of the attacks, as well as details about the attack, one week, 11 months and 35 months after the assault. Concluding the research study, it was found that the rate of forgetting for flashbulb memories and event memory lows after a year, the strong emotional reactions drawn out by flashbulb events are remember poorly, and that the content of flashbulb and event memories stabilizes after a year.The second Journal article consists of a study that looks at the nuclear accident that occurred in Japan, in 1999 and whether or not different aspects such as the source, place, activity or people have an effect on the accuracy of flashbulb memories. The results from the study determined that only a small portion of participants indicated accurate flashbulb memories, alongside this, those that did have accurate flashbulb memories reported rehearsing the memory more than those that had inaccurate memories – his encourages the idea that flashbulb memories are formed through rehearsal, rather than at encoding. (Attain, h. , et al. , 2005, p. ) Like every study, the one regarding September 1 lath also has strengths and weaknesses when collecting and evaluating the data to come to a conclusion on the accuracy of flashbulb memories, however the strengths of the study outweigh that of the weaknesses. The first strength of the study is that it provides data not only from one time period from when the even t occurred, but from multiple so that it can not only look at how much is remembered over a certain period of time, but also to an extent at what rate memory retention declines, as well as stabilizes, which as mentioned earlier the rate of forgetting slows after a year.Another strength of the study is that by providing confidence levels, it also helps to show whether or not the person doing the survey was guessing to fill in the answers, or if they genuinely believed what their memory was telling them, which as a result showed on a whole that memory is not as trustworthy as perceived, with many people reporting different Tories several years later, with very high confidence levels. Weaknesses are also evident in the study, however not as weighted as the strengths for it.One weakness that is prominent in the study is that because the survey is not done in a controlled environment, and is rather sent in the mail to the person, when completing the survey there could be other factors in the persons home which may potentially affect what they are thinking at the time, and thus could provide inaccurate data in the long run. Another weakness in the study, although it does not have too large of an impact, s that health issues had not been accounted for, which in turn could potentially alter the overall data.Overall it can be seen that the strengths of the study outweigh that of the weaknesses, and therefore the study provides accurate data which in turn shows that flashbulb memories do not provide accurate details of past events reliably. The study conducted regarding the nuclear accident in Japan has numerous strengths and weaknesses involved in the collection and evaluation of the data, which ultimately affects the outcome of the study.In this study the strengths outweighed that of the weaknesses. The first noticeable strength in the study is that it looks at the four different aspects – the source, place, activity and people – which provides a broader understanding of what information, if any, is retained accurately. Though from the study it showed that each factor didn't have too large of an impact, and that flashbulb memory is not as accurate as first thought.Another strength of the study is that unlike in the first study, for this one the exact same questionnaire was used at both different time periods, so that it is a lot easier to compare insistence, rather than having different questions which potentially could be interpreted incorrectly. Alongside the strengths of the study, there are also weaknesses, one of which being that it does not look at lengthier time periods after the event happened, and it only looks at 2, unlike the other study which looked at 3.This could throw out the overall results of the study, however it still provides a general idea. Another weakness in the study is that Just like the first study, it does not take into account peoples health problems, or even age, which has a chance of providing incorrec t data. However, looking at the strengths of the study, they outweigh the weaknesses in the sense that they show that flashbulb memories do not provide accurate details of past events reliably.In conclusion, the human memory, is not reliably accurate in providing details of past events. This was shown specifically after analyzing different Journal articles that look at flashbulb memories. In conclusion to the Journal article that tested flashbulb memory against the 9/1 1 attacks, it was concluded that the strong emotional reactions drawn out by flashbulb events are remember poorly, and that the content f flashbulb and event memories stabilizes after a year.In the following study that was conducted after the nuclear accident that occurred in Japan in 1999 was analyses, it was concluded that the idea that flashbulb memories are formed through rehearsal, rather than at encoding. After analyzing the following articles, it has been concluded that flash bulb memory is not and has not been reliable for recollecting events accurately. Youth are the building blocks of a nation. It is a fact that the more stronger the youth, the more developed the nation is. The role of the youth in the nation-building occupies the central place. The countries which utilize their youth in as right direction are more developed. The energy and brightness of minds of youth act as torch-bearer for a nation. On the contrary, the countries which fail to realize the importance of the youth lag behind in every department of life. If youth is not in the right direction and is unconcerned about the future of the nation, it will become a burden for the nation.Consequently, it will not play any productive role. Pakistan has a large youth population. An estimated 63% of the population fall under the age of 25 years. Due to endemic poverty, the majority of youth in Pakistan do not have the opportunity to experience a childhood. Male youth literacy rate is estimated to be 53% and female youth literacy rate is even lower at 42%. As far employment i s concerned 15% of the youth is unemployed. Despite constituting a major chunk of our population, our youth are lagging behind in every field.Thy have a major role to play in country’s progress but due to government’s negligence they are facing many new challenges in today’s society. They have been afflicted by an identity crisis, lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem, a sense of hopelessness and confusion and ambiguity concerning about moral issues and future. They have been trapped in a culture marked by guns, violence and drugs. All this has resulted in an unstable economy, a shattered confidence of foreign investors, lawlessness and a break-up of the social fabric.Education is the most powerful weapon of the youth. With this weapon they could lead their country towards progress. But unfortunately, quality and skill based education has been a dream for our youth especially for the poor. There is no formal guidance for students in logical selection of a specific course of study. There is no unified and single education system in the country. Our universities and colleges have become degree distributing machines. Education does not mean only degrees but in its true sense it is the future of the youth.Poverty is another major problem of our youth. Due to lack of resources they are unable to get quality education and pursue their field of interest. Poverty is a sort of disease which is weakening our youth. They are unable to fully use their talent and serve their country. Another major problem being faced by our youth is unemployment. After completing their education, they find no job to utilize their skills to serve their country. This is the result of negligence of government towards utilization of the youth in a proper manner.Deteriorating conditions are also responsible for low investment in the country resulting in less job opportunities. Unemployment is a multi-dimensional and complex issue which starts a vicious circle of assoc iated problems Some other major problems faced by our youth are child labour , committing sucide , growing use of narcotics and frustration. Despite the multiplicity of problems, it is still a right time for government to take some pragmatic steps. Of the 15 largest countries in the world in terms of population, Pakistan has by far the youngest population.Government should not regard the young population as a burden but an asset. We need to bear in mind that â€Å"the destiny of nations is in the hands of youth†. Before then, the economy was controlled by the businessmen and factory owners commonly referred as bourgeoisies whose aim was to make a profit at the expense of the poor farmers who were referred as the proletariat. Capitalism, on the other hand, is characterized by the existence of classes in the society. The means of production is controlled by private individuals who own private property and the government is democratic in nature. The market forces determine what is to be produced and who is to consume the products depending on the wealth of individuals. The private owners thus make huge profits and invest it in machinery and more business investments while the poor continue being poor as they can’t afford to buy goods. A wide gap, therefore, exists between the rich and the poor in the society (Grant & Vidler, 19-25). Communist government is thus preferred as it reduces inequalities and classes in the society and is effective in transforming backward economies. A capitalist system of government is a free market economy where price of products is determined by market forces. The market also allocates the resources to members of society depending on one’s income. The government does not intervene in controlling the prices. In this situation, the owners of property whose aim is to maximize profit may set high prices for products or make goods unavailable so as to control demand and in turn raise prices. The poor consumers are therefore forced to cut consumption of some goods as they cannot afford leaving them to the rich t hus widening the gap between the rich and the poor. Inflation is inevitable due to rise and fall in prices of goods and services (Grant & Vidler, 22). On the other hand, a communist system of government is controlled by the state. It is a command economy where prices are determined by the government thus inflation is controlled. The state also distributes goods and services equally to the society (Schwartz, 292). The resources are distributed according to needs of each individual hence no chance of creating income and wealth inequalities in society; it exercises fairness and equality. The capitalist system is driven by self interest of the actors in the economy. Due to profit maximization objective by businessmen, they are not able to provide essential goods and services that do not make profit such as education and health (Grant, 6). On the other hand, the communist state is involved in provision of resources to all. It thus provides public and merit goods to the society among othe r goods hence individuals in a communist economy benefit from improved public transport, education, and health among others (Leslie, 223). The state also subsidizes basic foodstuffs thus making them affordable to all members of the society unlike in capitalist states where one’s income determines the bundle of goods to buy. Schwartz (292) argues that individuals in a communist state work according to ability.
